Harlem Renaissance Journal
This journal is decorated with images from E. Simms Campbell’s classic 1932 illustration “A Night Club Map of Harlem,” which captures the electric energy of speakeasies, nightclubs, and legendary entertainers. Campbell’s witty imagery includes Cab Calloway at the Cotton Club, Bill “Bojangles” Robinson at the Lafayette Theater, and tips about his favorite hangouts (“Club Hot-Cha: nothing happens before 2am, ask for Clarence”).
Hand-bound with care and attention to detail, the journal features a soft vegan leather cover accented with gold foil detailing. Inside are 150 sheets (300 lined pages) with gilded edges, complemented by a crimson satin ribbon bookmark and an elastic book closure for secure keeping.
The journal was created by Teri Johnson of Harlem Candle Co., a brand founded on a passion for scent, storytelling, and the cultural artistry of Harlem. Each thoughtfully-designed item is crafted to evoke a specific moment, mood, or muse—from the jazz lounges of Lenox Avenue to the captivating songwriting of Billie Holiday. Harlem Candle Co. has cultivated timeless creations in partnership with The White House, The MET Museum, The Wiz, and Gypsy.
Made in the United States.
