“Living Well Is the Best Revenge” Silver Bracelet
Please note: Orders containing this item will ship the week of June 1st.
Celebrate the finer things in life with this elegant silver cuff bracelet, stamped with the proverb “Living well is the best revenge.” The words are stamped inside the cuff, for a discreet reminder to whoever wears it of the joys of rising above and thriving.
The phrase has been popular for centuries; it was listed in George Herbert’s 1640 compilation of Outlandish Proverbs. But it is perhaps most often associated in literary circles as the title of Calvin Tomkins’s New Yorker profile of Gerald and Sara Murphy, which he later expanded into a book of the same name. The Murphys inspired the characters Dick and Nicole Diver in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Tender is the Night, and lived with Scott and Zelda in Paris and the French Riviera in the 1920s, surrounded by great artists, exceptional writers, and life’s finer things. The playwright Archibald MacLeish called the Murphys “masters in the art of living.”
Whether luxury to you looks like the English countryside of George Herbert, the French Riviera of the Murphys, or simply the comforts of a well-kept home, indulge in your definition of living well with this stylish bracelet.
This slender but substantial cuff is 0.125" wide, and will fit a wrist that is 6.5"–7" around.
Every bracelet is individually made by an artist near New York City. Each letter is stamped, then the silver is oxidized, hand sanded, and polished.
